Herdwatch hits Ireland’s Largest Energy Event for Farmers

The Energy in Agriculture event 2017 will take place on August 22nd in Gurteen College

The “Energy in Agriculture 2017” event which is currently Ireland’s largest energy event for farmers, will take place on Tuesday, August 22nd at Gurteen College, Co. Tipperary. The event itself is organised by Teagasc, Tipperary County Council, IFA, Tipperary Energy Agency and Gurteen College. The whole aim of the event is to provide practical information for farmers and the rural sector about the various renewable energy and energy efficiency options available for farm businesses.

Farm Safety Week 2017: The Dangers of Slurry

Dangers of slurry while spreading

Today’s theme of Farm Safety Week being “livestock and slurry” so we are going to look at the business of spreading slurry. While a majority of this year’s slurry has already been spread we take a look at the dangers of slurry; how it’s taken so many lives and if there are any ways to reduce the risks to yourself, and your family, when you are out there performing the task. According to a 2016 article in The Independent “In the period 2000-2010, 30% of child fatal accidents on farms were caused by drowning in slurry or water.”
